1. Who we are
The Becoming Project (“Becoming”, “we”, “us”) is a free educational website for boys and young men, including gender-diverse youth, and for the parents, mentors and educators who support them. It is owned and operated by Improm2 Solutions, LLC. Contact: proximitymatch@gmail.com. This policy applies to the Becoming Project website and its features (the “Service”) and should be read with our Terms of Use.
2. Information that stays in your browser
Some features save information in your own browser’s storage on your device so they work when you come back. This information is not sent to the Becoming Project:
- My plan: the people, code word, ways home, support details and words you save;
- Lesson progress: which lessons you practiced and what you may want to revisit;
- Coach preferences, such as shorter answers or a practice focus;
- Parent phrases and edited conversation starters on the For parents page;
- Video ratings and autoplay choices on the Videos page;
- whether you chose to share anonymous practice counts (this is off by default).
Anyone with access to your browser may be able to see this information. Clearing your browser data removes it, and you can also clear your plan, progress and preferences with the buttons on those pages.
2a. The age question
When you first open the lessons, we ask for your birth month and year and whether you are a learner, parent, mentor or educator. You can choose “Not now”. Your answer is sent to our server once, which works out an age group (under 13, 13 to 17, or 18 and over), a suggested set of lessons and your chosen lesson filter. The birth month and year are not stored. The age group, filter and role are kept in one cookie in your browser (bp_stage, described in section 6) so we do not ask again. It contains no name, birth date or unique identifier. Your answer only chooses lessons: it is not proof of age and never unlocks AI coaching.
3. The Coach
The Coach may be closed. When it is open, your question is sent to our server, matched to guidance written and reviewed by people, and answered. It is not sent to AI models, and the Becoming Project does not store the text of your question or of the answer. Clearing the conversation removes it from the page. Messages that sound like an emergency, or that mention abuse, romantic or sexual role-play, or getting or using alcohol, vapes, drugs or weapons, are answered with fixed guidance.
AI-written coaching for adults may be offered in the future only to adults confirmed by an age-assurance provider that Improm2 Solutions, LLC has approved. No provider has been chosen, and this feature is not in use. Before it starts, this policy will name the provider and explain what it collects. The design asks the provider to tell us only whether a person is 18 or older, how this was checked, and when the confirmation expires, with a transaction reference; the Becoming Project would not receive or keep identity documents, photos of faces or biometric data.
4. What the Becoming Project keeps on its server
To run, protect and improve the Service, the Becoming Project keeps a small amount of information that does not include your name, your words or your plan:
- Coach answer records (kept for 90 days): the general topic of a question, the kind of answer shown, how long it took, and any feedback button you press;
- Usage limits (kept for one day): a daily counter stored under a scrambled, one-way version of your network address that changes every day;
- Anonymous practice counts (kept for 180 days), only if you turn on sharing, which is off by default: right and wrong totals per lesson;
- Page feedback and video ratings (kept for 180 days): daily totals of optional buttons;
- Service records (kept for 90 days): errors and timing about the Service and the tools it uses to prepare lessons, without anything you typed.
5. Hosting, network addresses and logs
The Becoming Project is hosted on Cloudflare. Delivering web pages means your browser shares technical information such as your IP address, device and browser type and the pages you request with Cloudflare, which processes it to deliver and secure the Service under its own privacy policy. The Becoming Project does not store your IP address. We have turned off optional request logging for the Service.
6. Cookies
The Becoming Project does not use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies, and the public site sets no cookies for visitors except the age-group cookie below, and only after you answer the age question. While the site is a private preview, people given the preview link receive one cookie that lets them see the preview. The site owner and reviewers use a sign-in cookie on the private admin pages.
bp_stage: your age group (under 13, 13–17 or 18+), suggested lessons, lesson filter and role, signed so it cannot be changed, kept for 30 days. No birth date and no unique identifier. It is set only if you answer the age question.bp_preview: private-preview access, 30 days, preview only.
7. Service providers
We use these providers to run the Service. None of them receives anything you type on the site.
- Cloudflare: hosting, security, the database and file storage, and AI models used by our team to help prepare lesson drafts, pictures and narration.
- Lesson preparation tools used by our team only (Google Gemini and Google Text-to-Speech, Pollinations, Hugging Face): they receive lesson material, never visitor information. Every lesson for under-18s is approved by a person before it is published.
- Email (Google Gmail): if you email us, your message is handled in our mailbox.
AI providers that would be used for adult coaching (such as Groq) are not used for visitors while AI coaching is off.
8. How long we keep things, and deletion
Server records are deleted automatically on the schedules above. Emails are kept only as long as needed to answer and to handle any safety concern. To ask about or delete information, contact us; because the Service does not keep names, messages or accounts, we usually cannot connect stored records to a person, but we will help however the law allows.
9. Children and teens
The Becoming Project is designed for boys and young men aged 13 and older, and for the adults who support them.
- Under 13: the Service is not open to children under 13, the pathway for ages 8 to 12 is closed, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The Service has no accounts and does not ask for names, email addresses or contact details. It asks for a birth month and year only to choose lessons, does not store them, and keeps only an age group in a cookie (section 2a); a visitor under 13 sees a notice that lessons for their age are not open yet. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete what we can find.
- Ages 13 to 17: teens may use the Service only with a parent or guardian’s permission. We handle information from teens the same minimal way: no accounts, no profiles, no advertising, no selling or sharing, and optional sharing that is off by default.
- Parents and guardians may contact us to ask what information we hold or to ask us to delete it, on behalf of their child or teen.
10. Reporting a concern
If something on the Becoming Project worries you, use Report a concern at the bottom of every page, or email proximitymatch@gmail.com. Please leave out names and personal details. This is not an emergency line: if someone is in danger, call 911.
11. Sharing and selling
We do not sell your information, share it for advertising, or use it for targeted ads. We may disclose information we hold only if required by law, or to protect the safety of people or the Service.
12. Security
We keep what we store to a minimum and protect the Service with reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections, restricted admin access and automatic deletion. No website is completely secure, so please avoid sharing identifying details.
13. AI-generated content, other websites and logos
Some pictures and narration on the Becoming Project are generated by AI and are labeled, and some lesson text is prepared with AI help and reviewed by people. Please talk with a trusted adult and use the trusted resources to confirm anything important, and check the Becoming Project again for up-to-date information. As explained in our Terms of Use, the Becoming Project and its owners and creators are not responsible for the misuse of its content or for advice that is misguided or mistaken.
The Becoming Project links to independent organizations; their own privacy policies apply when you visit them. All logos, trademarks and copyrighted images of other organizations belong to their respective owners and are used only to identify those organizations.
13a. Governing law
This policy is governed by New Jersey law, as described in our Terms of Use (to be confirmed in legal review).
14. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy before any change in how information is handled, including before any AI feature or any pathway for children under 13 opens. The version and date at the top show when it last changed.
